    Cindy Mauro Reisenauer

An award-winning Indie author and illustrator of books EMERITA (children's picture book), LINE by LINE Everyone Can Draw Dinosaurs (Instructional book), and KNOWING ALEX Life with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (Memoir), one of Cindy's earliest memories is sliding under the sofa in her parents Queens living room and drawing on the immaculate white wall with a purple crayon. Recognizing she must have been inspired by Crockett Johnson's Harold and the Purple Crayon her parents channeled Cindy's artistic efforts by promptly providing her with a drawing pad.

Love of all things art has been a constant for Cindy. Even as a child, she knew her life would revolve around art in some way. Over time the two art forms she most gravitated to were illustration and writing which blended seamlessly. The union of image and text led Cindy to children's picture books where that interest evolved into a passion for the art form.

Cindy writes and illustrates stories for readers of all ages. While topics and plots may vary a common theme is the love of family, feelings of belonging, and the strength found in our relationships.

"Participation in the arts offers the opportunity for continual exploration. Using a variety of mediums I create drawings, paintings, and collages to accompany my stories.  I also enjoy photography, as my camera is often close at hand. I learned the craft of making picture books by joining the Writers Round Table and meeting my mentor, Frieda Gates. She introduced me and many others to the SCBWI, the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, even before the organization added the 'I'. Being part of a creative community has been essential to my work. For me, it's been the Rockland/Bergen Scribblers."

When not spending time with loved ones, traveling, or walking a trio of rambunctious dogs with her husband, Rich, Cindy can be found happily immersed in creating art and composing stories.

"I wish that kind of joy and happiness to everyone."
